Apple Watch Ultra

Putting Apple Watch Ultra’s Sapphire Crystal

But at least the sapphire was real.

The sapphire glass of the Apple Watch Ultra was not as durable as the competition. What do you think about this? In this article, I’m gonna tell you its reality…

New Apple Watch Ultra models feature sapphire glass, the same material used to protect the display of regular Apple Watches made of stainless steel and the cameras of current iPhone models. Sapphire is one of the hardest minerals, so it’s no surprise that it’s used to protect the screens of premium watches – not only by Apple but also by other brands like Fitbit and Samsung.

Blogger JerryRigEverything, who is well-known for his durability tests, decided to examine the sapphire coating on the displays of the Apple Watch Ultra, the Galaxy Watch 5, and the Garmin Fenix 7. Pure sapphire is nearly as hard as diamond, with a hardness of 8 or 9 on the Mohs scale, compared to the 6 or 7 that ordinary glass has.

It is well knowledge that Apple does not utilize genuine sapphire but rather a composite material that is somewhat less effective at protecting the cameras in their iPhones. In any case, the Apple Watch Ultra passed the JerryRigEverything test, proving that it is a sapphire, although with caveats.

Using Mohs scale level 6-7 instruments left marks on the Apple Watch Ultra, and level 8 tools left noticeable scratches. The Galaxy Watch 5 had similar scores, although the scuff marks from levels 6 and 7 were less pronounced. Garmin Fenix 7 showed the best result: up to level 8, it was not possible to damage their glass in any significant way. They have the purest sapphire of the three examples given here.

The video confirms that all three manufacturers tell the truth about the use of sapphire in their watches, but Garmin wins on the purity of the mineral.

Previously, enthusiasts tested the strength of the Apple Watch Ultra case. In the course of a severe test, the watch survived both hammer blows and shaking in a jar of nails – but they still managed to break it. For more information visit our site.
